Pathway to a Clerkship at the FIU College of Law

On March 20, 2014, the FIU Law student chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s South Florida Chapter hosted Pathway to a Clerkship at the FIU College of Law. United States Circuit Judge Adalberto J. Jordan and United States Magistrate Judge Andrea M. Simonton spoke to students about the impact a judicial clerkship can have on a lawyer’s career and the type of work one can expect as a clerk. The judges also offered insight into what they look for in potential clerks, and discussed the trend towards hiring individuals with practice experience. Following the panel discussion—which was moderated by Robert Scavone, President of the FIU Law Alumni Association—R. Alexander Acosta, Dean of FIU Law, and Bernie Pastor, immediate past president of the FBA-South Florida Chapter, joined the judges and students at a reception.
