SOUTH FLORIDA CHAPTER

Pro Bono

The South Florida Chapter of the FBA is proud to support the FBA’s public service and pro bono mission.

In collaboration with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, we are pleased to provide numerous opportunities for our members to get involved in the community and make a difference, while honing their legal skills and enriching their own lives by helping those in need. The following opportunities are currently available:

  •  The American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Immigration and Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) invite you to help children and families in immigration proceedings. We host easy-to-use online platforms that act as virtual bulletin boards featuring cases of children and families who need pro bono representation nationwide. View the platforms to connect to a meaningful pro bono opportunity near you! Download our PDF (left) or contact Enjoliqué A. Lett at Enjolique.Lett@gtlaw.com

  • The Eleventh Circuit is looking for lawyers interested in being appointed to handle appeals under Addendum 5 to the CJA plan. This is a great opportunity to help those who are less fortunate and for lawyers who want to handle appeals before the Eleventh Circuit. Appointed attorneys write the opening and reply briefs, and sometimes, have oral argument before a panel. More information about such appointments can be found through this link. If interested, please email the Honorable Robin S. Rosenbaum, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, at Rosenbaum_Chambers@ca11.uscourts.gov.

  • Become a mentor in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida’s Court-Assisted Re-Entry (C.A.R.E.) Initiative. Those who have rehabilitated themselves and lived positive lives following convictions have universally credited the positive role that others – friends, family, significant others, and mentors – have played in their re-entry into society. As a mentor, you will not only have the chance to be that positive influence in someone’s life, but you will strengthen your own community by reducing recidivism and enhancing public safety. To get involved, contact Lynette Herrera at Lynette_Herrera@flsp.uscourts.gov or click here: http://www.flsd.uscourts.gov/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/One-Page-CARE-Flyer.pdf.

  • There are a wide range of Pro Bono opportunities available. The Florida Bar Foundation has done an excellent job consolidating them into one easy, user-friendly platform. https://thefloridabarfoundation.org/florida-pro-bono-matters/

  • Join the FBA South Florida Chapter’s Pro Bono Committee. For more information, please send an email to federalbar.southflorida@gmail.com.
