FBA Boardroom Lunch at Miami International Airport

The South Florida Chapter hosted its second Summer Boardroom Luncheon at the Miami International Airport on July 22nd.  The program began with an engaging discussion of the federal regulatory provisions applicable to airport operations led by Assistant County Attorney Cynji Lee, Esq.  Cynji demystified a number of issues involving the airport’s business model, including why so few low cost carriers fly into MIA.  Lea Bucciero, Esq. of the Podhurst Orseck law firm followed with an overview of how and when an event in-flight can be defined as an “accident” that triggers federal jurisdiction.  The participants were then treated to a custom tour of the MIA airfield, including a stop at one of the Miami-Dade Aviation Division’s fire stations and a visit with the fire chief.  The chief explained how his team is prepared to respond to nearly any hazardous event at the airport, including a fire on an Airbus A380, which is the world’s largest passenger airliner.  The chief concluded his remarks with a demonstration using one of the division’s most technologically advanced rescue vehicles.  The FBA extends its gratitude to Cynji and Lea for leading such an interactive discussion with our members.  The next Summer Boardroom Luncheon will be in August.
