FBA June Virtual Boardroom Lunch with Magistrate Judges Louis and Becerra
On June 25, the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association was pleased to host the first summer 2020 Boardroom Luncheon and honored to be joined by United States Magistrate Judges Lauren F. Louis and Jaqueline Becerra. For the first time ever, due to the Covid-19 virus, the event happened remotely, but a virtually intimate, interesting, and informative discussion took place. The judges explained how their interest in serving on the bench developed, how the reality of their position differs from what they expected, how the public health situation has affected their work, and which recent changes may remain after the pandemic. The judges also shared practice pointers and encouraged law students to see the practice of law as a vocation rather than just a job. In the words of Judge Becerra, “You can’t be great at anything you don’t love.”
The Chapter plans to host a second summer Boardroom Luncheon in late July, featuring two U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) lawyers, so keep any eye out for the invitation.
