Hyatt Luncheon – Amy Howe SCOTUSblog

On Thursday, November 9, 2017, we welcomed back for the 6th time (!) Amy Howe, reporter and former editor of SCOTUSblog, now formally “Howe on the Court”.

Amy’s talk was riveting.  She summarized the vast array of arguments the Supreme Court has had and will have this term.  These cases covered issues including President Trump’s travel ban, redistricting and gerrymandering, federal employee “agency/fair share fees” pertaining to Unions, criminal cases focused on applying older precedent to new technology such as cell site location and emails subject to search warrants not housed on United States servers, the Alien Tort Statute’s application to corporations, and a water rights dispute between Florida and Georgia.   Amy was gracious to answer questions at the end, including providing insight as to the separate schools of thought on Justice Kennedy’s potential retirement.   We were also pleased to point out that Amy is now a “Hard Pass” holder at the Supreme Court, making her one of only 24 people who have dedicated press credentials at the Court!

We had a fantastic turnout from our Judiciary, the Bar and Students!

Thanks to everyone and thanks Amy!
