Hyatt Luncheon – Hon. Beth Bloom & Hon. Laurel M. Isicoff
On March 8, 2017, we were honored to welcome the Honorable Beth Bloom, United States District Judge, and the Honorable Laurel M. Isicoff, Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge, to our Hyatt Luncheon. Both judges spoke about the Southern District’s observance of Law Day 2017, held on May 1st every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. Judge Bloom spoke about this year’s theme – exploring the many ways that the Fourteenth Amendment has reshaped American law and society – and paid special tribute to the women of our profession, a fitting recognition on International Women’s Day. The judges also spoke passionately about the District’s various pro bono initiatives and volunteer opportunities, explaining that information on available pro bono cases, registering for the Court’s Pro Bono Panel List, receiving assistance with pro bono litigation expenses, and becoming a mentor with the new Court-Assisted Re-entry (CARE) Program are all available on the Southern District’s website at http://www.flsd.uscourts.gov/.
Thank you to Judge Bloom and Isicoff for your words and to all who attended. And congratulations to our raffle winner University of Miami 2L Sonya Randolph, who won a free iPad 2 Air for joining the South Florida Chapter!
