Palermo Project Civics Lesson

On April 7, 2017, the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association teamed up with St. Thomas University School of Law and its fantastic Palermo Project (named after the late Honorable Peter R. Palermo) to discuss civics with the Carol City High School Law Magnet program students.  The event, hosted by St. Thomas University School of Law, featured discussions with the pre-law magnet high school students about current events, which centered on issues including immigration, equal protection, access to public education, and safety in public schools.  By the end of the two-hour program, almost every student in the classroom presented an argument.  It was quite the heated debate!  A lunch with the students followed the program and enabled the students to get to know the law students and faculty, and our participating Chapter members.

Special thanks to Chapter Member Gary Kravitz for introducing our Chapter to this initiative and inviting the Chapter’s participation.  Also special thanks to Chapter Member Arun Ravindran and our Civics Liaison Stephanie Turk for participating in the event on behalf of our Chapter.
