At the annual Chapter Awards and Installation Dinner we honor the recipient of the Edward B. Davis Award for Service to the Federal Bench & Bar, which is given to a judge or lawyer who has exemplified the Chapter’s values of excellence and service to the community, the federal bench, and the federal bar. It is our Chapter’s highest honor. We also recognize our install our incoming President and Executive Board. We welcome and enjoy the presence of many of our federal judges and local practitioners.
This event it’s our most casual evening, no speeches and no sit-down dinner, just meeting and talking with our federal bench and bar over food and drinks. In recent years we have had over 700 attendees, including many members of our federal and state judiciary. The evening always generates an electric atmosphere, and each year continues to grow in its popularity.
Our monthly Luncheons invite a distinguished guest or panel to discuss timely issues, and are an opportunity for members of the local bar to network and mingle. We consistently have engaging speakers who discuss and field questions on current hot-button legal issues.
We work incorporate recent law school graduates and law students into the South Florida Chapter’s mission and events. We recognize that younger members of the bar are the future of the Chapter, and we work to ensure they are engaged and made to feel welcome as they progress in their careers. We have placed particular emphasis on getting our local area law students involved with our Chapter. We also host events for law clerks to give them an opportunity to network with each other.
Our Chapter strives to hold CLE seminars, where attendees hear from members of the federal judiciary as well as leaders in the community as to the most pressing legal issues of the time, including issues in civil, criminal, and appellate disciplines. We ensure that the Florida Bar approves its seminars for credit in advance, thus ensuring ease for the members to obtain their credit. Our Chapter also acts as a liaison for its members to the National FBA and its many CLE offerings throughout the year.
Our Boardroom Lunches are one of the many great FBA events designed to meet that objective. Because we limit attendance to twenty members, these lunches give our members the unique opportunity to dine in an intimate, casual setting with some of our sharpest and most engaging local figures.
The goal of the Women Lawyers Initiative is to encourage dialogue in our legal community on the unique challenges facing women lawyers. We also hope to foster networking and business generation opportunities for women lawyers in South Florida.
