The Equality and Empowerment Summit was a great success! Held at the law offices of White and Case, the South Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association sponsored three panel sessions in honor of International Women’s Day and Equal Pay Day.
The first panel was with Melissa Dincher from UBS. She did not speak about equal pay. She spoke about the exponential effect that pay inequality can have on short- and long-term wealth. So, not just the daily effect but the effect inequality of pay makes to the bottom line!
The second panel on inspiring inclusion in complex litigation and receivership cases consisted of U.S. District Judge Melissa Damian, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Corali Lopez-Castro, and Kozyak, Tropin and Throckmorton Partner Bernice Lee. This panel may as well have been called: observations from the trenches with real-life experiences, and “how to” advice from these experienced lawyers and now judges.
Finally, we heard from TelevisaUnivision Senior Vice President of Litigation Lara Bueso Bach and ABA Centers of America Chief Legal Officer Kristy Johnson for a perspective from in-house counsel on what they look for when seeking trial counsel and the role real diversity plays in their decisions about trial teams.
We concluded the program with wine and catered light bites, while all panelists and attendees had the chance to eat, drink, and network.
Thanks so much to everyone who attended and participated in the program. We hope to make this an annual event!
